Top 10 Tips To Prolong Battery Life On Your Phones & Tablets

At Phoenix Mobile Technology in Kilkenny city, battery replacements are one of the most frequent repairs that we do every day. We know a lot about your phones battery life!

When you buy a new smartphone, the battery life is generally excellent, but after a few months, you’ll notice it begins to drain much quicker. Why does this happen? Batteries degrade naturally over time and aren’t helped by heavy-duty social media apps like Facebook, Instagram and Youtube.

Here are our Top 10 Tips to Save Your Battery:

1. Use Power Saver Mode

Most smartphones have a low power mode that reduces background processes in order to prolong the time gotten from a single charge.

2. Charge Smart

Avoid using the wrong charger. A lot of brands use different strength chargers and using the wrong one (voltage is too high or too low) can be detrimental to your battery over its lifespan. Also avoiding charging your phone overnight so that you don’t wear it out, and make sure you aren’t using a cheap cable as they are not regulated properly.

3. Turn Off Bluetooth & Wi-Fi

It’s important to turn off your Bluetooth & Wi-Fi when they aren’t needed. This could save you up to 20% battery life at the end of the day. If your phone is constantly searching for active networks and devices to connect to, you can be guaranteed that it is also zapping your battery!

4. Turn Off Location Services

Unless you’re using a location or navigation driven app like Google Maps or Waze, you should turn off location permissions on your apps to save power.

 5. Avoid Extreme Temperatures

Our phones are not made to work in extremely low or extremely high temperatures. Not only will they drain your battery faster than normal, but it can also do substantial damage. Heat is worse than cooler temperatures, so keep your smart device in the shade while soaking up the Irish sun ;)

6. Lower The Brightness

This one might seem obvious, but none the less, lowering your brightness setting on your device will save you a huge amount of battery life, especially if you clock up a lot of screen time.

7. Haptic Feedback (Vibration)

You know when you tap your screen and it gives off a little vibration with each touch? That’s your haptic feedback. It’s a cool feature on most newer model smartphones, but if battery life is your priority then our advice is to turn off the haptic feedback, as it drains your phone’s life.

8. Widgets

Try not using too many live widgets or wallpapers. The constant animations will drain your battery without you noticing.

9. Turn Off Auto-Updates

Pick your moments for updating apps or software. Doing this will stop your phone updating apps unexpectedly and keep some power available if you’re running low and need your phone to last.

 10. Time

Even though Apple was slow to admit it, your phone’s battery life will deplete with usage over time. If you are really careful and adhere to all of the above tips, you may get 18 to 24 months out of your battery. However, eventually, it will deplete. All good things must come to an end.
